Privacy Policy
Last Updated: January 12, 2026
TL;DR: Tri@ge is a local-first application. Your emails stay on your machine. We never see your data. The only external service used is Anthropic Claude API for generating AI summaries, which is subject to Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
1. Introduction
Tri@ge is a privacy-first email client designed to help you process your Gmail inbox efficiently using AI-powered summaries. This privacy policy explains how your data is handled when using Tri@ge.
2. Data We DO NOT Collect
We want to be clear about what we don't do:
- We never see your emails - Your email content stays on your device
- No backend servers - There are no Tri@ge servers collecting data
- No analytics or tracking - We don't track your usage
- No email storage on our end - All emails are cached locally on your machine
- No account required - We don't collect personal information
- No tokens or API keys stored remotely - Your API keys stay on your device
3. How Your Data is Processed
3.1 Local Storage
All email data, settings, and statistics are stored locally on your device using:
- IndexedDB - For caching email content
- Electron Store - For application settings and configuration
- localStorage - For UI preferences
This data never leaves your machine except as described below.
3.2 Gmail Integration
Tri@ge connects directly to your Gmail account using:
- OAuth 2.0 with PKCE - Secure authentication without storing passwords
- Gmail API - Direct connection to Google's servers
- No intermediary servers - Your Gmail credentials and access tokens are stored only on your device
Your Gmail data is subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
3.3 AI Processing (Anthropic Claude)
To generate AI-powered email summaries, Tri@ge sends email content fragments to Anthropic's Claude API:
- What is sent: Email subject, sender information, and simplified email body content
- What is NOT sent: Attachments, full email headers, or metadata beyond what's needed for summarization
- Purpose: Generating concise one-line summaries of your emails
- API Key: You provide your own Anthropic API key, which is stored only on your device
3.4 Local AI Model (Coming Soon)
We are developing a fully local AI model option that will:
- Process all AI summaries on your device
- Require no API keys or external services
- Ensure zero data leaves your machine
- Require approximately 2GB of RAM
This feature is not yet available but will provide complete privacy for users processing sensitive emails.
4. Third-Party Services
Tri@ge integrates with the following third-party services:
4.1 Google Gmail API
- Purpose: Fetching and managing your email
- Data: Email content, metadata, labels
- Privacy Policy: Google Privacy Policy
4.2 Anthropic Claude API
- Purpose: Generating AI-powered email summaries
- Data: Email content fragments (subject, sender, body)
- Privacy Policy: Anthropic Privacy Policy
- Data Usage: According to Anthropic, they do not train models on API inputs
4.3 Sender Icon Services
Tri@ge fetches sender icons from:
- Google Favicon API - For domain favicon images
- Gravatar - For email-based profile images
Only domain names and email addresses are sent to these services, not email content.
5. Data Security
We implement several security measures:
- OAuth 2.0 with PKCE - No passwords or client secrets stored
- Local encryption - Sensitive data encrypted at rest on your device
- HTTPS only - All API communications use secure connections
- No telemetry - No crash reports or usage data sent to us
6. Offline Mode
Tri@ge supports offline mode where:
- Cached emails remain accessible without internet
- No data is sent to external services
- AI summaries require re-connection to generate (unless using local model in the future)
7. Your Rights and Control
You have complete control over your data:
- Access: All data is stored locally on your device
- Deletion: Uninstalling Tri@ge removes all local data
- Portability: Your data is stored in standard formats (IndexedDB, JSON)
- Opt-out: Disable AI summaries to prevent sending data to Anthropic
8. Children's Privacy
Tri@ge is not intended for use by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be announced in the application.
